If you’re looking to make the most of your time in the blogging world, here’s my top 7 tips you must know before you blog…

Here we go:

1. Measure EVERYTHING!

   You have to know who’s visiting your site, where they are coming from, and most importantly what keywords they’re using to get to you!

   It’s a must to have Google Analytics installed in your blog.

   Analytics is completely free (if you need help, I can help you).

2. Treat each post as a landing page for a “single keyword phrase”.

   Search for “sanibel entertainment” in Google, you’ll see how I created an endorsement post for the Sanibel Captiva Daily that was optimized for “sanibel entertainment”.
   The phrase shows up in the #1 natural position on Google.

3. Assure each keyword phrase you’re blogging about has people searching for it already.

   Success in blogging is ALL about attracting natural search traffic.

   There are free tools on the Internet for this, let me know if you need them.

4. Assure you use a keyword enriched domain name that is directly tied to a natural keyword phrase with traffic.

   For example, when I created my lifestyle blog, HowDoILoseWeightNow.com, I didn’t call it “HowCharlyLost60Pounds.com” because no one was searching for that!

   The domain, howdoiloseweightnow.com is optimized for three keyword phrases:

   • How Do I Lose Weight
   • Lose Weight Now
   • Lose Weight

   I get traffic to my site from those phrases, simply because of the domain name.   Talk about attracting the RIGHT kind of traffic!

5. Add Video & Audio into your blog!

   If done properly, statistics show that Video & Audio blogging increases readership and conversion (meaning people commenting in your blog, or contacting you from your blog).

6. Assure you use emotional engagement (or even, emotional enragement) in your posts, audio and video!

   People may not remember exactly what they’ve read in your blog, but they WILL remember how your blog made them feel.

   The highest levels of readership in blogging is maintained by creating relationships, relationships are maintained through feelings.

   You create the buzz using feelings, people will come back.

7. Finally, the most important thing – LIST YOUR BLOG IN THE FREE INDEXES!

   You set this up once, and everytime you post a blog post, it’s indexed all across the web automatically.

   It not only increases relevance in Google’s world, but puts your posts in front of potential readers!

   Start with Technorati.com, and Blogsearch.google.com.
