Blogging for Success - Telling Secrets

Welcome to Step 7, the final step, in my blog series entitled “Your 7 Steps to Creating More Business” on the Internet.

In my research…

and in my recent testing, I’ve discovered that the most successful method of creating awareness is building your personal brand.

Keep in mind, if you’re in the business of selling anything, creating awareness creates business.

Honestly, it’s about taking your uniqueness, or your niche, and extending that online, helping people understand:

  1. you,
  2. how you can help them, and
  3. most importantly, how they’d foolish to consider anyone else but you.

If done properly, the results are amazing…

An extremely amazing example is one of our very own customers good friends – Sandy Kostick – and her daily blog, The Sanibel Captiva Daily.

Sandy’s personal mission, as it lives & breathes in the postings in her blog, is to promote all of the good people, places & things on Sanibel & Captiva Islands.

She hit the ground running July 1st, 2008, and hasn’t stopped since — the feedback has been phenomenal, and the results — astounding (she’s more than doubled the projections I laid out for her!)

So how I “blog for success”?

First, you throw out everything you’ve heard people say about blogging, the most common thing I hear, in some form, is:

“I blog but it’s not generating results”

HINT: It’s because they’re not “blogging for success”.

Second, you determine your uniqueness, or niche, this can be tough for some, but most of the time I’ve found it’s tied to your passions.

I’ve also found if your passions are in alignment with your work (as is Sandy’s), the results grow exponentially.  (Yes, there’s something to be said for enjoying what you do, the positive energy radiates in all you do!)

If you’re not sure exactly what your uniqueness, or niche, is – spend 10 minutes with me, I’ll ask you a few questions, and I guarantee I’ll find it for you.

Finally, follow these steps to success:

  1. Build your blog around what’s naturally being searched for on the Web.

The goal is to attract the hundreds, thousands or hundreds of thousands of people typing search phrases that relate to you anyway!

A great example of this is how I chose the domain “HowDoILoseWeightNow.com” for my weight loss & lifestyle blog because I wanted to attract people typing in these three search phrases:

    • How Do I Lose Weight
    • Lose Weight Now
    • Lose Weight

Just two days ago I received my weekly statistics report that showed people naturally landing on my blog from the phrase “how do i lose weight” – bingo, it’s working!

  2. Build your blog posts around what’s naturally being searched for on the web.

Very similar to #1, you want to create blog posts that very explicitly go after one search phrase per post.

Yes, essentially every blog post becomes a “landing page” for a keyword search phrase. The best method I know, and recommend to all of our customers friends ;) , is using the 4 for 1 approach.

To see an example of this, search for:

    “Sanibel Entertainment” in Google

and you should see my blog post in the #1 natural search position.

    How did I do that?

Look how I strategically put the keyword search phrase in the post.  You should pick up on it in four locations.

    E-mail me
what you find, and I’ll tell you if you’re correct.

  3. Monitor your statistics like a hawk!

This is it – this is where you find out exactly what’s working and what’s not.  The step missed by almost everyone. It’s also where you find new keyword phrases to blog about!

From my HowDoILoseWeightNow.com statistics report, I learned that people were searching for:

    “Daily Food Log Template”

and getting to my blog because I referenced that I used one in one of my posts.

The next day I created a PDF out of the very simple one I use, and posted it on the blog…Now I attract natural search engine traffic just for that document!I think you get the idea. :)

In terms of a web statistics package – I completely recommend and use the free Google Analytics service.

  4. Commit to a schedule!

One of the most important things to think about is gaining readership, and you do that through momentum. If you’re going to commit to blogging, create a schedule (tied around keyword phrases!) for blogging that you can truthfully live up to.

Not frequently having new material will make people lose interest.

Keep in mind, the more you post, the more relevant Google finds your blog & its contents, which means the more you’ll appear in the natural search results.

Google loves Sandy’s site, as she posts multiple times per day, but one per week is good, too.

Alright, I think I’ve got you started and you get the idea.

If you want to know more, I’ve created an eBook called “Blogging for Success”, if you’d like me to send you a copy just contact me, and it’s on its way.
