Capture the learners? What does that mean?
I’m going to show you, and I think you’ll be amazed!
Welcome to Step 5 in my blog series entitled “Your 7 Steps to Creating More Business” on the Internet.
This very moment, hundreds, if not thousands, of people are typing in search phrases trying to find you, your services or products.
Some of those people are typing in fairly obvious phrases, such as:
- “bankruptcy” – if they’re interested in finding out about bankruptcy, or even, finding a bankruptcy attorney,
- “web site design” – if they’re interested in designing a web site, or having a web site designed,
- “fort myers restaurants” – if they’re interested in seeing what restaurants are available in Fort Myers.
HOWEVER…
Some of those people are typing in search phrases that make sense to them and are not obvious phrases in relation your services or products.
These types of search phrases are called the learn phrases, and the people typing them – the Learners.
If you’re interested in learning more about the types of web visitors on the Web, be sure to read my post “Satisfying your Web Visitors“.
Who would have thought that “stop the calls” would be a learn phrase for a bankruptcy attorney web site?
Or “save my home from disaster” as a learn phrase for hurricane protection?
Or “share information on the web” for a web development firm? Okay, that one is a little more obvious!
At this point, you probably have two questions:
- Where do I find these learn phrases?
- How do I capture the learners and direct them to my web site?
There are many ways to find learn phrases that apply to your business, over the last year of testing & measuring, we’ve discovered that the one of the most effective methods is right under your nose –
It’s listening to your potential customers, and their phrasing, BEFORE you instill in them your industry’s terms.
Here’s an example of a dialog in our business (web site development):
Customer: “I want to share information on the web”
Me: “Oh, you want a web site”
Customer: “Oh yes, that’s what I meant, I want a web site to share information”
You see how the customer came to me with a phrase that makes sense to them, I corrected them, and then they spoke in our terms?
So there’s your answer to question #1 – listen to NEW or POTENTIAL customers, write down, or make a mental note of, their phrases as soon as they say them. It’s important to do it right away, so you don’t lose the exact wording, it’s funny how over time our minds convert their phrases into our words.
As far as question #2 – “How do I capture the learners and direct them to my web site?”, you’ll have to do a little homework, but I promise you it will be worth it.
I’m going to give you three specific ways you can “Capture the Learners”, only after you apply the answer to #1, and supply with me with 6 learn phrases.
Simply fill in the ‘Contact Me’ box at the top right of the screen, give me:
- Your Name,
- Your E-mail, and
- 6 learn phrases
and I’ll reply with 3 specific ways you can “Capture the Learners”.
I’m looking forward to hearing from you!

I’ve caught only snippets of your Steps until today–I took the time to read and DO. In fact, added responses on several blogs and I’m waiting on my confirmation from ecademy. I’ve seen others in my industry with blogs, but thought it was too time consuming; now I’m putting a lot of thought into creating my own blog and how to make it different and attract a wider audience. I’ve also bookmarked some info regarding networking for realtors for my husband. Thanks, Charly.
