About 2 years ago, the concept of our Web Starter Kit was born in our weekly Team Meetings –

We asked ourselves, and our clients, what the biggest complaints were in regard to Web Site Development.

Aside from the typical service-related problems in web development (where web developers over-promise what can be done and when, and under-deliver on the final web site’s look & functionality, and ability to perform), here’s what they wanted:

• affordable custom web design,
• ability to edit their web site,
• fast web site development, and
• have someone help them understand all of the options that apply to them, and their business.

It’s so easy in our industry to ignore how fast Internet technology changes, and to get ’stuck in a rut’.  We realized how we needed to step up and see how we could realistically solve each of those “wants”.

The second, “ability to edit their web site”, and the fourth, “have someone help them understand…” were relatively easy to solve…

Since 1996, we’ve offered our clients the ability to edit their web site using our ISG Content Manager (a password protected web page providing access to edit, add, delete any of the content in a web site).  A little tweaking of our Content Manager and a re-focused effort on customer training, and #2 was solved.

In terms of helping people understand the web, our team has a strong background in training people at their level of understanding about technology (a few of us taught Internet classes for years) — which, incidentally, is the biggest reason we’ve been a 100% referral business, people seem to really love our support & service! #4 solved!

In terms of having an “affordable custom web site“, that was a tougher nut to crack.  After trying different techniques, and listening to customer feedback, we realized people basically wanted three options:

1. a low start-up cost,
2. the standard industry pricing (development costs paid during development), or,
3. no monthly fee.

Finally, the hardest obstacle to overcome was being able to solve the “I need my web site yesterday!” request.  This required an overhaul of our internal processes & procedures for web site development, and the creation of a service we call “Fast Track“.
