Can you imagine generating income all day, everyday, in a setting that no one has to physically operate?

How much freedom would that that give you to do what you really want to do, when you want to do it?

I’m a firm believer in passive income, and enjoy brainstorming with people how they can create passive income in their lives through the Internet.

Even if you’re not interested in having more personal freedom, passive income is a great sustainer — helping your business survive through lean times.

Subscriptions (specifically online subscriptions) is the second method I mention in my “Online Income - An Overview” blog post and is a good start to blending online income with passive income.

Keep in mind, though, that true passive income is:

• setting up your income generator,
• receiving money regularly without continuing effort.

are today’s best ways to create truly passive income on the Internet, however, Subscriptions receive an honorable mention.

Just what is a subscription web site?

Simply put, it’s where a person continually pays you, on a monthly, quarterly or annual basis, to receive the service you provide. Today, payment is generally handled through credit card payments that are automatically deposited into your bank account.

Netflix.com is a good example of a subscription web site.

With Netflix, you subscribe to receive the movies you select on their web site, and a group of them are mailed to you. As you return one you’ve watched, they send another, and the process continues as long as you pay their subscription fee.

Their HowItWorks section explains the process very well.

Behind the scenes, Netflix has to physically process your movie selection by:

• sending you your movies in the mail,
• receiving your movies from the mail,
• assuring they aren’t damaged, and
• repeating the process.

The subscription method I usually review is sharing high-quality, well organized, specialized information to subscribers for a monthly fee.

An example of this in the big scale is Ancestry.com, and a great example of a successful site that we’ve created is HeaterMagazine.com.
