The Golden Rule, truth and correctness…

…it’s what I live by, it’s what our team lives by, and it is what I hear in my head whenever I think about one of the biggest mentors in my life, Mr. Martin Haas.
Martin has been, and continues to be, one of the most inspirational people in my life — both personally, and professionally.
Just being around him you feel the buzz!
About a week ago, I had the pleasure of sitting down with Martin in his office at Entech’s headquarters in Fort Myers.
We talked about the Golden Rule, what it means – “Do unto others, as you would like done unto you“, and how we apply it personally and professionally.
We reviewed how it comes down to taking care of your family, your team, your clients just as you would yourself. Doing your best, and being satisfied that in doing so, you’re completing a major mission in life.
As painful as it can sometimes be, we talked about sticking to the truth — all of the time, under all circumstances. When it comes down to the very nature of our beings – you just can’t mess with the truth.
We talked at length about correctness – in the simplest form, taking a complaint with a product or service, and doing whatever it takes to make it right. A constant quest of assuring that if you’ve heard something you’ve said or done was incorrect — correcting it as quickly and efficiently as possible — and being positive and professional while you are remedying it.
It’s amazing to me to see someone so committed to those ideals, that they live it in everything they do and say, day after day after day.
From just writing this blog entry & thinking back to our meeting — I feel as though I’ve been reenergized & refocused!
If I haven’t said it lately, Martin, Thank You –Thank You for inspiring me, the people around me, everyone in your life, everyone you’ve met, and will meet.
PS – It’s interesting that Martin & I were referred to each other about 6 years ago by another one of the biggest mentors in my life, Terry Brady (you can read about Terry in my blog entry, “You get what you accept” which will be online shortly).
Terry just knew we needed to connect – and wow! Was he right. (Thanks Terry!)
