What’s your dream job? Are you living it?

In one of my favorite books, Good to Great, Jim Collins discusses having the “right people on the bus” in your business, and then, taking it step further by assuring “that they are in the proper seats”.
I like to take that a step further by assuring they have a comfy seat with their favorite things handy — and are surrounded by positive energy.
I always find it intriguing when I meet with a potential customer who really loves what they do — their energy just seems to overflow — they are living in the moment, enjoying what they are doing so much that there seems to be nothing else they’d rather be doing.
It’s passion — in the raw — and I find seeing it, in person, to be very inspiring.
Just before Marin joined us in 2004 as our Graphic Design Artist — we had a lengthy discussion about passion, which was based around these questions:
- What is your dream job?
- What are your dream tools you’d use for your dream job?
- Visualize your perfect office space - what do you see as you look around?
The answers she gave quickly became her job description, her tool set, and inspiration for the design of her office.
In our team meetings, we revisit those questions every quarter — making, what I believe to be, necessary adjustments to assure we stay true to each our passions.
I believe if you look at our team today, you’ll see passion for what we do to be one of our key ingredients for productivity, efficiency, and positive attitude.
