Most of the ISG team you see today have worked together since the early 1990’s. From what I’ve seen in business (especially technology-related) - that’s pretty amazing!
In the late 1980’s and early 1990’s, I was Vice President/General Manager of small computer company called Total Systems Support, Inc (TSS) in Howell, Michigan.
TSS’s focus was primarily building, selling and installing IBM Compatible Computers (DOS, Windows 3.1, etc). I was also responsible for running a bulletin board system (BBS) initially called TSS BBS, but was later renamed, Livingston County On-Line (LCOL).
It was through the local BBS community that I discovered a highly talented 11th grader named Daniel Laursen. The year was 1991, and Dan was added to the TSS Team to assist with building & servicing computers.
In 1992, Marty Caldwell (my mom) was added to the TSS team to handle Customer Service, Accounting, and Inventory Management.
On August 1, 1995, I founded Internet Services of Michigan, Inc (ISMI).
At ISMI, Dan worked with us remotely from college during the school season, and at our offices in the summers. Dan’s brother, Don Laursen (a sophomore in high school), joined us in 1995 as a HTML programmer and walked to work after school.
In 1996, Tom Schumm also joined us at ISMI — recommended by Dan — working with us in the summers, and remotely from school.
Marty joined the ISMI Team in 1997 to primarily handle new client sign-ups, and assist with Accounting.
In January of 2003, I founded Internet Services Group of Florida, LLC (ISG), and history seemed to repeat itself again.
Having a good understanding now of balance and maintaining passion for what I did, I selected clients carefully, keeping to my goal of 20 hours of work per week.
Through word of mouth, ISG grew quickly.
I realized early on I’d need some help, and e-mailed Dan to see if he wouldn’t mind coming down (from Michigan) to review him doing some remote programming for ISG. Within a month, he decided to move down, and join with me, once again, in a technology related business.
Not only did Dan come down, we asked his brother Don if he was interested in moving down as well. He agreed, and whola - summer of 2004 ISG had three team members.
Soon thereafter we added Marin, moved Tom down from Michigan, and finally at the end of the summer of 2006 ‘convinced’ Marty to (re)join us!
